About this place
Huge open park just south of Edinburgh's Old Town, with play areas, tree-lined walks and open space for games.
This huge, flat expanse of parkland just south of Edinburgh's Old Town gives the city one of its most useful green spaces, with tree-lined avenues, play areas and enough open grass for football, kite-flying or simply letting children run. Its central location, easily reached on foot from the Royal Mile and the university district, makes it a natural stop to break up a day of sightseeing. An annual programme of events, including a bonfire night display and various festivals, brings extra life to the park at different times of year. It's free to visit, with on-street parking nearby and paths that are entirely flat and buggy-friendly.
