About this place
Ruined castle within Chatelherault Country Park, reached by a woodland walk past ancient oaks.
This ruined castle sits within Chatelherault Country Park, reached by a woodland walk that passes some of the Cadzow Oaks, ancient trees thought to be many centuries old and possibly linked to a medieval royal hunting park that once covered this area. The walk itself, through mature woodland with genuinely old trees along the way, is as much a part of the attraction as the castle ruins at the end of it. It's a good way to add some history and a longer walk to a wider visit to Chatelherault. It's free to visit, and the woodland path involves some uneven, sloped terrain.
