This former hunting lodge, built for the Dukes of Hamilton and designed by the architect William Adam, sits above the dramatic Avon Gorge, with woodland trails leading down into the gorge itself past some of Britain's oldest oak trees, the Cadzow Oaks, thought to be many centuries old and possibly linked to a medieval hunting park. An adventure playground near the visitor centre gives children a proper play stop alongside the walking trails. The combination of grand architecture, ancient trees and dramatic gorge scenery gives this park real depth beyond a typical country park visit. It's free to visit, with parking on site, and while main paths are accessible, the gorge trails involve steep sections.
