About this place

Row of distinctive white fishermen's cottages in the small village of Catacol.

This row of distinctive white fishermen's cottages in the small village of Catacol, on Arran's west coast, is known locally as the Twelve Apostles, and each cottage was reportedly built with a slightly different window design so fishermen's wives could recognise which chimney belonged to their own house from out at sea. The row makes for a striking, easily photographed sight against the backdrop of the surrounding hills. It's a quick stop rather than a planned attraction, well suited to breaking up a drive along Arran's coast road. It's free to see, with limited parking available nearby.
