Picturesque ruined castle on the shore of Lochranza with views over the bay.

This ruined castle sits right on the shore of Lochranza's bay, its square tower a striking silhouette against the surrounding hills, and it's thought to have been used as a hunting seat by Scottish kings before later passing through various hands. Its scenic, easily reached position makes it one of the more photogenic ruins on Arran, and red deer are frequently seen grazing nearby, particularly in the early morning or evening. It's a compact site, easily explored within half an hour. It's free to visit, and the uneven ground within the ruins makes it unsuitable for buggies.
