Glenmore Forest Park spreads across the valley between Aviemore and Cairngorm Mountain, its Caledonian pine woodland home to red squirrels, capercaillie and a range of other wildlife that's genuinely rare elsewhere in Britain. A network of waymarked trails suits everything from a short loop near the visitor centre to a longer walk out towards Loch Morlich and the surrounding hills. The visitor centre itself has displays on the forest's wildlife and history, useful context before or after a walk. Its central position within the wider Cairngorms makes it an easy base for a day that also takes in the loch beach or the reindeer centre. It's free to visit, with parking at the visitor centre, and trails range from flat, easy paths to more rugged forest tracks.
