About this place

Sandy freshwater beach surrounded by Cairngorm mountains.

Loch Morlich has a proper sandy beach, which comes as a surprise to a lot of visitors given it's a freshwater loch rather than the sea, ringed by Caledonian pine forest with the Cairngorm mountains rising steeply behind. The water is cold even in summer, but that doesn't stop plenty of families paddling or swimming, and a watersports centre nearby hires out canoes, paddleboards and sailing dinghies for older children and adults. It's one of the most reliably scenic spots in the whole national park, free to visit, with parking and toilets at the main car park, though it does get busy on warm weekends.
