About this place

Ruined clifftop tower south of Ayr, dramatically sited above the sea.

This ruined tower stands dramatically on a clifftop south of Ayr, its position chosen for defence with sheer drops to the sea on one side, giving it one of the most striking settings of any ruin on the Ayrshire coast. The castle itself is fragmentary, but the clifftop walk to reach it and the views along the coast make the visit worthwhile even without extensive remains to explore. It's a quieter, less-visited site than many of Ayrshire's better-known castles. It's free to visit, with limited parking nearby, and the clifftop position means care is needed with young children.
