This short stretch of road near Dunure is one of Scotland's best-known optical illusions, where the slope and surrounding landscape trick the eye into seeing the road as running downhill when it's actually climbing, meaning a car left in neutral appears to roll gently uphill. It's a genuinely puzzling experience even when you know the science behind it, and a small layby lets visitors stop safely to test it for themselves.
