Kirkcudbright's harbour, lined with colourful Georgian and Victorian buildings, has drawn artists for well over a century, earning the town its nickname as Scotland's 'Artists' Town', and several galleries around the town still reflect that tradition today. A walk along the harbourside is free and easy, with fishing boats often moored along the quay and views out towards the Solway Firth. The town's castle ruins and the nearby MacLellan's Castle add further points of interest for a longer visit.
