Set in woodland near Kirkcudbright, this conservation park focuses on both native and exotic species, bringing together critically endangered Scottish wildcats - among the rarest mammals in Britain - alongside lemurs, otters and a wide range of other animals from around the world. Its conservation focus gives the visit more depth than a typical zoo, with information throughout explaining the threats facing many of the species on show. Woodland paths link the various enclosures, making for a fair amount of walking across the site. There's an admission charge, and most paths are accessible, though the woodland setting means some slopes and uneven ground.
