About this place

Extensive gardens and grounds surrounding Mount Stuart House on the Isle of Bute.

The grounds surrounding Mount Stuart House on the Isle of Bute are extensive and varied, running from formal Victorian and Edwardian planting near the house out to wilder woodland and an arboretum with trees collected from across the world. The house itself, a striking Victorian Gothic mansion, is separately ticketed and well worth combining with a garden visit if time allows. Reaching Bute requires a ferry crossing, which adds a bit of an adventure to the day for children, even before arriving at the gardens themselves. There's an admission charge for the gardens, with most main paths accessible, though some woodland trails are less so.
