About this place

Beautiful beach with woodland trails and views of Fidra island.

This stretch of beach near Dirleton looks out towards the small tidal island of Fidra, whose lighthouse and shape are widely believed to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson's map for Treasure Island, drawn from childhood holidays spent in the area. A wooded nature trail through Yellowcraig Wood leads from the car park down to the sand, giving families a choice between a shaded woodland walk and open beach depending on the weather. It's a quieter alternative to some of East Lothian's busier beaches, with plenty of space even on a warm day. It's free to visit, with parking and toilets at the main car park.
