This sandy beach looks straight out towards Bass Rock, home to the world's largest colony of northern gannets, whose sheer numbers turn the rock almost white at certain times of year - the Scottish Seabird Centre in the town has live cameras trained on the colony for a closer look without a boat trip. North Berwick Law, an extinct volcanic hill, rises behind the town and is a popular short climb for families with a bit more energy. The town itself has cafes and play parks close to the beach, making it easy to fill a full day. It's free to visit, with parking available in the town.
