Family-friendly sandy beach with play park nearby and views over St Andrews Bay.

Tucked on the other side of St Andrews harbour from the more famous West Sands, East Sands is smaller and more sheltered, which makes it a good choice on a breezier day or with younger children who don't need quite so much space to run. A play park sits right next to the beach, so it's easy to combine sandcastles with the swings and slides without moving the whole family operation. The harbour itself, with its fishing boats and the ruined cathedral visible on the hill above, adds some extra interest to a walk along the front. It's free, with parking and toilets close by.
