About this place

Large park with castle ruins, woodland walks and play areas near Loch Lomond.

Despite its name, the castle at the heart of this park is a 19th-century Gothic-style mansion rather than a medieval fortress, and it now stands as an atmospheric ruin within extensive parkland at the southern tip of Loch Lomond. Woodland walks wind through the estate, a walled garden adds some formal structure, and a stretch of the loch shore within the park gives children a place to paddle or skim stones. It's a spacious, unhurried spot that works well for a picnic and a long wander rather than a single quick attraction. Free to enter, with parking, toilets and a play area near the main entrance.
