Aros is Portree's all-purpose visitor centre, with an exhibition on Skye's history and wildlife - including footage of the golden and sea eagles that nest on the island - alongside a cinema showing films and local events, a cafe and an indoor play area for younger children. It's a genuinely useful option when Skye's famously changeable weather closes in, giving a couple of hours of shelter without needing to drive far from town. The building is modern and fully accessible, with free parking, and its position just outside Portree makes it an easy add-on to a harbour visit rather than a destination in its own right.
