Portree's harbour is the postcard image of Skye's main town: a curved row of brightly painted houses and shopfronts looking out over the water, with fishing boats and pleasure craft tied up below. It's an easy, flat wander for families, with cafes and ice cream close at hand, and boat trips depart from the harbour in summer for seal-watching or a closer look at the Sound of Raasay. The town itself, just up the hill, has the island's main shops and services, making the harbour a natural place to end an afternoon of exploring rather than the whole of the visit.
