This sandy beach sits right beside Eyemouth's working harbour, with rockpools along the shore giving children plenty to explore at low tide. The town's history is marked by tragedy as well as charm - in October 1881, a sudden and violent storm sank much of the local fishing fleet within sight of the harbour, killing around 189 fishermen in what became known as the Eyemouth Disaster, a story told in detail at the town's museum. The beach and harbour together make for an easy, engaging visit that combines seaside play with a genuinely moving piece of local history. It's free to visit, with parking and toilets in the town.
