About this place
Medieval tower house above the Tweed just outside Peebles.
This medieval tower house stands on a rocky bluff above the River Tweed just outside Peebles, its position chosen for defence rather than comfort, with steep drops down to the river on one side. The castle and its immediate grounds can be viewed and explored from the outside, giving a strong sense of its imposing setting even without extensive interior access. A path along the river below gives good views back up towards the tower. It's free to visit the grounds, with parking available nearby, though the site's uneven, sloping ground makes it unsuitable for buggies.
