One of the great Border abbeys, founded in the 12th century and still striking as a ruin.

One of the four great Border abbeys founded in the 12th century by King David I, Jedburgh Abbey remains one of the most complete and visually striking of the group, its tall arched windows and largely intact tower giving a strong sense of the building's original scale. Like the other Border abbeys, it suffered repeated damage during centuries of conflict between Scotland and England, a history that's explained through displays at the site. It's a compact enough ruin to explore fully within an hour or so. There's an admission charge, and the uneven ground within the abbey makes it unsuitable for buggies.
