About this place

The highest peak on Arran offering spectacular views across the island and mainland Scotland.

At 874 metres, Goatfell is the highest peak on Arran, and the walk to its summit is one of the most rewarding hill days in Scotland for the effort involved, with views on a clear day stretching across the whole island and out to the Ayrshire coast, Kintyre and sometimes as far as Northern Ireland. It's a genuine hill walk rather than a gentle stroll, involving several hours and a real climb, so it suits older children with hillwalking experience and proper footwear rather than a casual family outing. The path is well maintained but exposed in its upper sections. It's free to walk, with parking at the Brodick Castle car park at the start.
