About this place

WWT reserve famous for wintering barnacle geese, with hides and a play area.

Run by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, this reserve is famous for the tens of thousands of barnacle geese that arrive each winter having flown all the way from their breeding grounds on the Arctic island of Svalbard, one of the great wildlife spectacles of the Scottish calendar. Hides positioned around the reserve let visitors watch the geese and other wildfowl up close without disturbing them, and an indoor centre with a play area gives families somewhere to warm up between walks. It's at its most spectacular in winter, though there's wildlife to see across most of the year. There's an admission charge, and the main hides and paths are accessible.
