These sea caves on Arran's west coast are linked by local legend to Robert the Bruce, who is said to have sheltered here during his time as a fugitive before returning to lead Scotland's fight for independence - the same period associated with the famous story of Bruce and the spider. The caves themselves, carved by the sea into the coastal cliffs, can be reached by a walk along the shore, with some containing carved markings of uncertain age and origin. It's a wilder, more exploratory outing than many Arran attractions. It's free to visit, with parking nearby and a walk along uneven coastal terrain to reach the caves.
