Children's theme park near Maryculter with nursery-rhyme and fairytale characters set in landscaped gardens.
Opened in 1980 near Maryculter, Storybook Glen fills landscaped gardens with life-size models of nursery rhyme and fairytale characters, arranged along paths that wind between ponds, streams and flowerbeds. It's aimed squarely at younger children who still recognise the characters from books and TV, and its old-fashioned, slightly homespun feel is very different from a modern theme park - part of its charm for families who remember visiting as children themselves. The whole site is outdoors, so it's best suited to a dry day. There's an admission charge, a play area and cafe on site, and most paths are buggy-friendly.
