Managed by the National Trust for Scotland, this reserve near Moffat is home to one of the highest waterfalls in Britain, tumbling around 60 metres down a steep hanging valley in a single dramatic drop. A path climbs alongside the falls towards the valley above, though it's steep and can be slippery, so it suits families with a bit of stamina and appropriate footwear rather than a casual stroll. Wild goats are sometimes spotted grazing on the surrounding slopes, an unexpected bonus for anyone making the climb. It's free to visit, with parking at the reserve entrance and no facilities beyond that.
