About this place
Visitor centre and free walking and cycling trails around Europe's largest onshore wind farm, near Eaglesham.
Spread across the moorland south of Glasgow, Whitelee is one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe, with well over 200 turbines visible from the network of walking and cycling trails that cross the site. A visitor centre explains how the turbines generate electricity in terms that make sense to children, and the sheer scale of standing beneath a working turbine tends to leave a real impression. The exposed moorland setting gives wide views across to Glasgow and the Campsie Fells on a clear day, though it can be a genuinely bracing spot in poor weather. It's free to visit, with parking at the visitor centre and trails ranging from flat, easy paths to longer routes.
