The working farm north of Dumfries where Robert Burns lived and wrote some of his best-known poems.
Robert Burns farmed this land north of Dumfries between 1788 and 1791, and although the farming itself was a financial struggle, it was here that he wrote some of his most enduring work, including Tam o' Shanter and the version of Auld Lang Syne that's still sung around the world every New Year. The farmhouse and surrounding grounds are preserved much as they would have been in Burns's time, with displays explaining his life and writing during this period. It's a quieter, more rural Burns site than some of the more visited attractions in Dumfries itself. There's an admission charge, and the farm buildings involve some uneven flooring.
