Luskentyre is regularly named among the best beaches in Britain, and it's easy to see why: a vast sweep of pale, powder-soft sand meets turquoise water that looks more Caribbean than Hebridean on a clear day, backed by the green and grey hills of South Harris. There are no facilities on the beach itself, so it suits a picnic and a proper stretch of the legs rather than a full day out, but the scale of the place means there's always room to spread out even when a few other cars are parked up. Dogs are welcome, and the sand is firm enough underfoot for pushchairs, though the approach road is narrow single-track in places.
