About this place
Colourfully painted castle estate with adventure playgrounds, forest trails and events.
Kelburn is instantly recognisable for the enormous, colourful graffiti mural covering one side of its otherwise traditional castle, painted by a team of Brazilian street artists in 2007 as a temporary project that proved so popular it was never removed. Beyond the mural, the wider estate offers adventure playgrounds, forest trails through a dramatic wooded glen, and a programme of events through the year, giving families plenty of reasons to spend a full day here. The contrast between the ancient castle and its very modern artwork tends to be a genuine talking point for visiting children. There's an admission charge, and the woodland trails involve slopes and uneven ground.
