About this place

Fairytale castle near Golspie with formal gardens and falconry displays.

With its fairytale turrets and towers modelled on French chateau architecture, Dunrobin is the largest house in the northern Highlands and has been the seat of the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland for centuries. Formal gardens laid out below the castle, in the style of Versailles, lead down towards the sea, and falconry displays run regularly through the day, giving children a chance to see birds of prey up close in flight. The castle's grand scale and dramatic setting make it one of the most visually striking house visits in the Highlands. There's an admission charge, and while the gardens are largely accessible, the castle interior has stairs.
