About this place

Large raised bog nature reserve with boardwalk trails and wildlife viewing near Stirling.

One of the largest and best-preserved raised bogs in Britain, Flanders Moss is an important carbon store and wildlife habitat, and a boardwalk trail lets visitors walk right out across the peat without damaging this fragile landscape. Adders bask on the boardwalk on warm days, dragonflies are common in summer, and the flat, open expanse gives unusually wide views across to the Trossachs hills. It's a quieter, more unusual outing than most on this list - genuinely interesting for curious children, but with little in the way of conventional entertainment. NatureScot manages the reserve, entry is free, and there's a small car park at Thornhill with no other facilities.
