Once described by the Royal Horticultural Society as the finest two acres of private garden in the country, Branklyn packs a remarkable collection of alpine plants and rhododendrons into a compact, walkable space just outside Perth city centre. It was created by John and Dorothy Renton in the 1920s and is now cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, retaining the intimate, plant-lover's feel of a private garden rather than a grand estate. It suits a shorter, quieter visit rather than a full day out, and works well combined with other stops in Perth. There's an admission charge, and the garden is mostly level and accessible.
