This woodland trail through the Ardkinglas Estate near Cairndow is themed around Julia Donaldson's much-loved picture book, with carved characters from the Gruffalo story tucked among some of the tallest trees in Britain, part of the estate's notable arboretum. The combination of a familiar story and genuinely impressive, towering conifers gives the walk more atmosphere than a typical themed trail. It suits younger children who know the book particularly well, though the surrounding woodland is attractive enough to interest older visitors too. There's a charge for access to the wider estate trails, with parking available near the start, and the paths involve some uneven, wooded terrain.
