Photogenic ruined castle on the shores of Loch Awe, reached by a short walk.

Standing at the northern end of Loch Awe with the mountains rising behind it, Kilchurn is one of the most photographed ruined castles in Scotland, built in the mid-15th century by the Campbells of Glenorchy and later expanded over the following two centuries. A short walk from the car park leads out to the ruins across what was once an island, now connected to the shore, and visitors can explore several of the remaining towers and walls. There's no charge to visit, and while the walk itself is easy, the uneven ground within the ruins makes it unsuitable for buggies or wheelchairs.
