About this place

Pink sandstone castle with a country park, cycle trails and adventure playground.

Built from distinctive pink sandstone, Drumlanrig has been the Dumfriesshire seat of the Duke of Buccleuch's family for centuries and holds one of the most important private art collections in Scotland - famously including a Leonardo da Vinci painting stolen from the castle in 2003 and recovered several years later. Beyond the house itself, the surrounding country park has cycle trails forming part of the wider 7stanes mountain biking network, alongside a dedicated adventure playground for younger visitors. It's a large estate, so a full visit combining house and grounds can easily fill most of a day. There's an admission charge, a cafe on site, and the grounds are largely accessible.
