This clifftop viewpoint on Skye's Trotternish peninsula takes its name from the vertical basalt columns in the cliff face, which resemble the pleats of a kilt when viewed from the right angle. Right beside the viewing platform, the Mealt Falls drop around 55 metres in a single sheer fall directly into the sea below, a genuinely dramatic sight reached without any walking at all from the car park. The short distance between parking and viewpoint makes it one of the most accessible dramatic sights on Skye, suited even to families with very young children or limited mobility. It's free to visit, with parking at the site, and the viewing platform itself is level and accessible, though safety barriers should be respected given the sheer drop.
