This ruined 15th-century castle overlooks the Powmillon Burn in the heart of Strathaven, its remaining walls giving a sense of the building's original scale despite centuries of decay. It's a compact, easily explored ruin rather than a sprawling site, well suited to a short stop while visiting the rest of the town. The burn and surrounding parkland add a pleasant setting beyond the castle remains themselves. It's free to visit, and the uneven ground within the ruins makes it unsuitable for buggies.
