About this place

18th-century estate near Cumnock restored by The King's Foundation, with an adventure playground and farm shop.

This 18th-century estate near Cumnock was famously saved from being broken up and sold off in 2007 through the intervention of The King's Foundation, then led by the then Prince of Wales, and it has since been restored and opened to the public with its remarkable collection of original Chippendale furniture largely intact. Beyond the house itself, the grounds include an adventure playground and a farm shop, giving families plenty to do outdoors as well as inside. Its relatively recent rescue and restoration gives the visit a genuinely modern success story alongside its Georgian history. There's an admission charge for the house, with grounds access often free, and a cafe on site.
