Built inside a converted quarry, the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena at Ratho is one of the largest indoor climbing centres in the world, and its Clip 'n Climb section uses brightly coloured, auto-belayed walls specifically designed for children and beginners rather than the more serious main arena. The sheer scale of the building, with walls rising far overhead, gives even the beginner-friendly sections a genuinely impressive feel. Sessions are generally booked in advance and run for a set time. There's a charge per session, and the venue is fully indoors, making it a reliable option whatever the weather.
