Dunvegan has been the seat of Clan MacLeod for around 800 years, and it's often described as the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. Inside, visitors can see the Fairy Flag, a fragile silk banner wrapped in centuries of legend about the protection it's said to bring the clan in battle. Outside, formal gardens and a water garden run down towards the loch, where seals often haul out on the rocks - seal-watching boat trips leave from the castle's own jetty in season. It's one of the more polished, fully accessible castle visits on Skye, with a cafe and gift shop on site, though there is an admission charge.
