Victorian tower on Cluny Hill above Forres, built to commemorate Admiral Nelson, with views across the Moray coast.
Built in 1806, shortly after Admiral Nelson's death at the Battle of Trafalgar, this tower on Cluny Hill above Forres was among the earliest monuments raised to him anywhere in Britain. A climb up the tower's internal stairs rewards visitors with sweeping views across the Moray coast, taking in the Moray Firth and, on a clear day, hills far to the south. The hill itself, reached by a short woodland path from Grant Park below, is a pleasant walk even without climbing the tower. It's a good combination of a modest walk and genuine history. There's a small charge for climbing the tower when open, with the grounds free to explore, and the tower's spiral stair makes it unsuitable for buggies.
