About this place

Popular family hill walk near Symington with sweeping views from the summit cairn.

This popular family hill walk near Symington leads to one of the largest Bronze Age cairns in Scotland at its summit, and on a clear day the views from the top stretch across much of the southern half of the country, taking in the Southern Uplands, the Pentland Hills and, in good conditions, as far as the Isle of Arran. The path is well maintained and steady rather than technical, making it a genuinely achievable hill day for families with reasonably fit older children rather than requiring serious mountaineering experience. It's free to walk, with parking at the base, and the summit path is not suitable for buggies.
