Kilmartin Glen holds one of the densest concentrations of prehistoric monuments anywhere in Scotland, with hundreds of sites, including burial cairns, standing stones and rock carvings, scattered across the glen and spanning thousands of years of history. Many of the most significant sites, including the linear cemetery of burial cairns and the rock art at Achnabreck, can be freely visited and explored without an admission charge, giving families a genuine sense of deep history within a compact area. Kilmartin Museum in the village itself, recently redeveloped, gives context for those wanting to understand what's being seen across the wider glen. It's largely free to visit the outdoor sites, with a charge for the museum, and parking available near most of the main monuments, though the sites themselves are on uneven, grassy ground.
