Ancient man-made mound in the centre of Inverurie, once the site of a medieval motte-and-bailey castle.
This large, flat-topped mound right in the centre of Inverurie was raised by hand centuries ago as the motte of a medieval castle, and it's thought to have been used even earlier as a Pictish assembly site, giving it a genuinely deep history despite its modest, grassy appearance today. A short climb to the top gives views back over the town, and information boards explain what's known about the mound's various uses over the centuries. It's a quick, easy stop rather than a full attraction, well suited to combining with a wider visit to Inverurie. It's free to visit, with parking nearby, and the climb to the top is not suitable for buggies.
