This woodland walk above Aberfeldy follows a gorge carved by the Falls of Moness, made famous by Robert Burns, who composed a poem in praise of the birch trees, or 'birks', after visiting in 1787. A high footbridge crosses the gorge partway up, giving a dramatic view of the falls below, and the circular route climbs through mixed woodland that's particularly striking in autumn. It's a proper walk with some real climbing involved, so it suits families with a bit of stamina rather than a flat, easy stroll. Aberfeldy itself, with cafes and shops nearby, makes an easy base either side of the walk. It's free to visit, with parking near the trailhead, and the path is not suitable for buggies.
