Dramatic rock pinnacle above Portree reached by a well-trodden hill path.

This dramatic rock pinnacle, part of a landslip on the Trotternish Ridge, is one of the most photographed sights on Skye, and the path up to it has been substantially upgraded in recent years, with proper stone steps replacing what used to be a boggy scramble. It's still a real climb - steep in places, with around 300 metres of ascent - so it suits older children and confident walkers better than a buggy-friendly outing, but the views back over Portree and the Sound of Raasay are worth every step. The car park is small and often full, so arriving early or late in the day makes for a much easier visit.
