About this place

Circular cycling and walking route around Loch Leven with wildlife spotting.

This roughly 13-mile circular route rings the whole of Loch Leven, mostly on flat, well-surfaced paths that suit both walking and cycling, with shorter sections easily manageable for families who don't want to tackle the full loop. The loch itself is a nationally important site for wildfowl, particularly pink-footed geese in winter, and Lochleven Castle sits on an island within it - the place where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567 and from where she made her escape. Bike hire is available near Kinross, and the trail is free to use, with several car parks giving access to different sections.
