About this place
Shingle beach on the shore of Loch Ness with a beer garden and Nessie-spotting views.
This quiet shingle beach on the southern shore of Loch Ness has a more relaxed, local feel than the busier Urquhart Castle side of the loch, with the Dores Inn's beer garden right beside the water making it an easy spot to combine a walk with a bite to eat. It's a popular spot for Nessie-spotters, with wide, uninterrupted views down the loch giving a decent chance of seeing anything unusual on the water, real or otherwise. The beach itself is stony rather than sandy, so it suits paddling and skimming stones more than sandcastle-building. It's free to visit, with parking available near the inn.
