About this place
Skye's oldest working distillery, on the shore of Loch Harport at Carbost.
Founded in 1830 on the shore of Loch Harport at Carbost, Talisker is Skye's oldest working distillery and makes one of Scotland's most distinctive single malts, known for its smoky, peppery character shaped by the sea air around it. Tours through the distillery explain the whisky-making process from malted barley to cask, finishing in a tasting room with views over the loch - the tastings themselves are for adults, but the visitor centre and shop welcome the whole family, and the setting alone is worth the stop. It's a working site rather than a polished tourist attraction, so it has a genuine, industrial feel rather than a manicured one.
